Revision 2

October 16, 2025   •.  Concept Development

After my critique with Jun before fall break, I really took it upon myself to expand the book, and try to at least have the first chapter of my book roughly completed. I took the time during fall break to really analyze what was working and what wasn't working. I needed to come up with a visual consensus of what my visuals will look like, so the production stage will go by as smoothly as possible.

Concept Development

To start, I started to create analog collages that will be used throughout the book. I took photos from my childhood, and then scanned them into my computer. Furthermore, I started to handwrite certain elements from the writing as an attempt to provide depth with the spreads.

Initial Analog Collages

Upon completion of the collages, I started to make digital concepts of the spreads on my first chapter so see how I can expand on the collages and the relationships between the imagery, typography, and layout.

Initial Layouts

While these layouts were starting to get better, they still felt flat to me. I knew I needed to find a way to provide a layer of depth within my layouts. In this stage, I started to explore pastel work, and I started to think about how I can use them to elevate my story. I started to experiment with them a bit, and I worked them into my layout. Below are some of my experiments.

Book – Version 3.0

Upon the completion of the pastel element, I then finalized a rough draft of the first chapter of my book, a rough draft of the book cover, as well as a printed prototype of how it'll work.
